Pain during recovery for the Endoscopic Brow Lift should be very minimal. With proper technique during surgery and by following post-operative care instructions and proper consumption of prescriptions such as narcotics given to you by your surgeon, most patients are comfortable during the recovery process.
Patients typically experience some itching and soreness around the incision sites, and should keep their heads elevated at all times to minimize swelling. Sometimes a temporary numbness of the forehead and scalp occurs, with typical recovery periods of 7-10 days.
There are several options for a brow lift. Factors such as age, genetics, and your goals play a big role in the method you choose to raise the brows. That being said, an endoscopic brow lift utilizes special equipment, called an endoscope. Because of this special equipment, the brow lift procedure only requires 2-3 small incisions that are hidden in the hair line.
The source of the creases and furrows can be treated by repositioning the underlying tissue and muscles of the forehead. This means less scarring and also less issues with numbness around the incisions as well. However be aware that this procedure will only create a mild lift.
If a heavier lift is needed, you may need to choose a more traditional brow lift procedure. Other typical brow lift procedures include pretrichial brow lifts, trans bleph endotine brow lifts, and the more old-fashioned coronal brow lifts. And of course there is the non invasive Botox procedure as well. A consult with your surgeon will help you determine the best course of action for your needs.
Whether or not a mini-brow lift versus Botox would benefit you is a question best asked directly to a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. A mini-brow lift may not have the same outcome as Botox treatments. Botox works by paralyzing forehead muscles, muscles between the eyebrows, and the muscles that create laugh lines. A mini-brow lift may or may not address all such issues, and it’s possible you will still need Botox after surgery. That’s why a consult is the best course of action. During a consultation, the doctor will listen to your appearance goals and discuss with you which options will best achieve your goals.
Botox is very effective to reduce/eliminate wrinkling of the areas I mentioned above. And as you noted, Botox is done about every 3 months to maintain optimal results. However, the amount of a brow lift you can get from Botox is only about 3-4 millimeters of lift in the best case scenarios.
A mini-brow lift would be effective for getting rid of sagging, creasing, excess skin of the forehead, and a drooping brow. Visible results will be to a greater degree than Botox and are long-term. So you need to make decisions based on your individual situation. I recommend you meet with a Plastic Surgeon to discuss both of these options and develop a treatment plan based on your unique needs.
Botox, when done properly can create the appearance of a brow lift in some patients. There are small muscles in the forehead that are used in scowling or frowning. Botox can create a small (3-4 millimeters) of lift in the outer brow area by relaxing those frown muscles that pull the brow downward in that area and staying away from the other muscles in the forehead. This is done by temporarily paralyzing the muscles.
This creates a slight raise of the eyebrows, and the results can vary from person to person. When done well, a patient’s eyes appear more open and refreshed. Most advanced injectors of Botox will be skilled at providing this Botox “lateral brow lift” procedure. This is important, as too much Botox can actually cause drooping, which would defeat the purpose altogether. Depending upon the patient, results can last anywhere from 3-6 months. This procedure is generally recommended for younger patients with good skin elasticity as aging and poor elasticity can have a visually unappealing result. In those cases, a surgical brow lift may be a better option.
The brow lift procedure ranges between $6,000-6,500. Depending up on where you live and the facility you choose, costs can vary significantly. Make sure you find out if the price you are quoted includes all applicable fees as well as follow-up. Post-op appointments up to a year should be included in the costs, and remember there also may be additional lab work and prescription costs as well.
One thing to keep in mind is that the decision to undergo plastic surgery is an important one, and should not be taken lightly. Most definitely, the cost should not be your main focus or determining factor with any surgical procedure. Other factors should be careful evaluated as well, such as the experience of the surgeon, whether the surgeon is Board Certified and whether you feel comfortable with him or her. The facility should be properly licensed, with well trained anesthesiologists on board as well.
