What is Kybella?

Kybella is the only FDA approved injectable treatment for correction of submental fullness, also known as the “double chin.” Though one of the most common aesthetic concerns, there has not been effective treatment opinions until now. Kybella has been rigorously studied and shown to be safe and effective in providing permanent correction for submental fullness. Dr. Mosser’s office is one of the first practices in the Bay Area selected by the company to provide this revolutionary new treatment.

How does it work?

Kybella is an injectable medication called deoxycholic acid which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown of dietary fat. After precise injections into the area beneath the chin, the medication destroys fat cells so they can no longer store fat. The result is reduction in fullness of the submental area, aiding in a more aesthetically pleasing and youthful contour of the face and neck. After appropriate treatment, the results are expected to be permanent meaning future retreatment is not necessary.

What is the treatment like?

Your treatment provider will thoroughly assess the area of concern and carefully mark out the area to be treated. Topical numbing cream is applied making the procedure very tolerable and comfortable. Several small injections are carefully placed into the fatty chin tissue. Typically the procedure takes only a few minutes. Afterwards, the area may appear swollen and feel sore for a several days which can be alleviated with ice.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone has individual needs depending on the extent of submental fullness. Typically 3-5 treatments are needed to achieve desired and long lasting results. Patients will not see much improvement after just one treatment so the importance of finishing your recommended treatment series is imperative. Treatments are spaced about 6 weeks apart.
